The Makeover Process
When you come in for your initial appointment, Dr. Callow will conduct a full examination of your mouth. He will take note of all your dental problems and flaws. You will discuss what you would like your smile to look like at the end. When helping you plan your makeover, the doctor will take into account your particular issues, the condition of your teeth and gums, your smile goals, and your budget. He can even create a wax-up that enables you to get a sneak peak of your gorgeous new grin!
The following cosmetic dentistry techniques may be incorporated into your makeover plan.
A dental veneer is a very thin shell-like structure that fits right over the front of your tooth. It covers a variety of flaws, including chips, cracks, stains, gaps, and even minor orthodontic issues. You can get a veneer for one flawed tooth or transform your entire smile with the procedure.
Veneers were created in Hollywood to improve the appearance of actors’ teeth, and they are still popular with celebrities for their transformative effects. But you don’t have to be famous to have a movie-star-caliber smile.
At our Plymouth, MI dental office, we offer conventional porcelain veneers and e.max ceramic veneers. Both are durable, lifelike, and stunning in appearance. Dr. Callow will be happy to discuss the differences with you.
When you lift stains and discoloration from your smile, you also appear to lift away years. Your teeth will go from dark and dingy to truly dazzling. Our Venus White take-home system combines professional results with the convenience of whitening your teeth at home. We will craft custom whitening trays that fit your mouth perfectly, cover all surfaces of your teeth, and prevent gel from getting on your sensitive soft tissues.
We can formulate your whitening solution based on when and how you want to whiten your teeth: during the day or while you sleep at night. The gel is highly effective but designed to minimize sensitivity.
Our dentist-supervised whitening system contains a higher concentration of active ingredient than drugstore products, for far superior results.
If your teeth are too long, pointed, chipped, rough at the edges, overlap slightly, or you’re unhappy with their shape, you may want to consider teeth contouring. This simple and painless procedure involves removing small amounts of enamel to remove flaws or change the shape of the tooth. We will take X-rays beforehand so we know where enamel may be removed without touching the sensitive inner structure of the tooth. Teeth contouring is a great procedure that’s quick — generally doable in one dental visit — inexpensive, and permanent. It delivers results that are beautiful yet subtle.
If your smile is crooked, crowded, or misaligned, you no longer have to choose between making peace with it or subjecting yourself to years of treatment with shiny metal braces. While braces are still a popular option with teenagers, adults generally prefer a more subtle approach to fixing their smile.
At Douglas A. Callow, DDS, we offer Invisalign. This groundbreaking orthodontic system uses a series of clear plastic aligners (like very thin mouthguards) to move your teeth. You should wear the aligners for 22 hours per day for the best results. Invisalign has several advantages over conventional orthodontics.
- The aligners are removable for eating and cleaning. You don’t have the food restrictions of metal braces, and you can clean your teeth normally.
- They molded out of soft plastic and comfortable to wear. There are no metal wires or brackets to poke your gums and cheeks.
- Invisalign typically works more quickly than braces — about a year on average.
- The aligners are so subtle on your teeth, most people will not notice you are wearing them!
We also offer restorative procedures that may be incorporated into your makeover.
A dental crown is a cap that covers the entirety of a tooth above the gumline. It is both restorative and cosmetic. Your tooth may require a crown if it is weakened due to decay, traumatic injury, or has undergone a root canal. The restoration will be custom made from impressions of your teeth. It is totally lifelike in appearance, restoring the beauty of your pearly white. It also protects and strengthens the tooth.
If you have a missing tooth (or more than one adjacent missing tooth) we can make your smile whole again with a dental bridge. This restoration is made up of an artificial tooth, called a pontic, that’s supported by dental crowns placed on the adjacent healthy teeth.
For missing teeth, dental implants are the replacement option that most resemble the real deal. That’s because they are a replacement for the entire thing, including the root. The procedure involves surgically implanting a titanium post into the jawbone. The post integrates with the bone, creating a completely stable base. Once you’re healed from the initial procedure, we’ll attach a connector called an abutment and, finally, a restoration. For a single tooth, we’ll typically attach a crown. But if you have more than one tooth missing — or even an entire arch — we can combine dental implants with bridges and dentures.
