You Don’t Have To Be Afraid Of The Dentist

Dental Anxiety 1 at Douglas A. Callow, DDS Office in Plymouth, MI

Dental anxiety, or being afraid of the dentist and dental procedures, is very common. By one estimate, some 15 percent of people get nervous, afraid, or even panicked at the thought of a dental appointment. Avoiding dental care leads to many more cavities, cases of gum disease, and lost teeth. At Callow Family Dentistry in Plymouth, MI, we’re helping people to no longer be afraid of the dentist by offering inhaled dental sedation.

We Understand Dental Anxiety

At Callow Family Dentistry, we know that absolutely no one chooses to experience dental anxiety. It’s an involuntary reaction that may be due to poor experience with a dentist in the past. Or it may be due to embarrassment or a feeling of loss of control.

Regardless of the reason, we have a strict no-judgment policy in our office. Our entire focus is on helping you get the gentle dental care you need while you remain relaxed and comfortable. That “relaxed and comfortable” part may be hard to believe, but our experience with thousands of anxious patients proves otherwise.

Inhaled Sedation Is The Answer

Inhaled sedation is a mixture of gases that you breathe in through a small nasal mask. Inhaled sedation has been used for nearly a century to help dental patients relax. It’s so safe that dental sedation is even approved for use in children!

Inhaled sedation quickly causes you to feel relaxed and unconcerned. We can precisely adjust the level of sedation to your need and we constantly monitor your comfort level.

In addition to helping you relax, inhaled sedation can make you appointment more comfortable by:

  • Decreasing the gagging reflex
  • Allowing you to more easily tolerate lengthier procedures
  • Making it easier for us to administer local anesthetic to numb the area to be worked on

The effects of inhaled sedation wear off very quickly, unlike other forms of sedation. The vast majority of people are fine to drive themselves to and from their appointment.

You Don’t Have To Take Our Word For It

Al Fernandez was kind enough to leave this review of his experience with Dr. Doug Callow.  He wrote:

When it comes to making a decision that will result in pain…. emotions cloud judgment. Visiting a Dentist was always a highly emotional concern and I always found myself putting my visit to the Dentist as: “Later”. Finding a caring Dentist with a ‘no pain visit’ experience was always a shot in the dark. After visiting Dr. Callow, I highly recommend his gentle approach.  I highly recommend him as a gentle and caring Dentist and can truly tell you that my previous concerns are thing of the past.”
