Dr. Doug Callow, a father of three, enjoys children so much he spends some of his time away from our Plymouth, MI dentist office visiting local schools and daycare centers to educate kids about oral hygiene. The rest of our team likes kids too, and it shows. We’ve got a waiting area especially for youngsters, complete with toys. And you’ll see photos of some of our young patients displayed on our walls.Dr. Douglas Callow on Pediatric Dentistry Read Transcript
Usually when a child comes to us for their first visit to a dentist, we are focused on making it fun and enjoyable. We try not to put the patient in any situation that they can't handle. Oftentimes, that means that their first visit is simply an exam, or an exam and a cleaning. Small mouths don't tolerate X-ray pictures very well so unless there's something urgent, we generally don't take X-rays on the first visit. Fluoride is something that we believe very strongly in and many patients will benefit from a fluoride varnish, which is a very easy paint-on fluoride treatment, to help prevent cavities and make the teeth stronger.
We tailor appointments to your children, from “happy visits” that help your toddler get to know the dentist to visits for older kids that include preventive care like dental sealants and learning about proper oral hygiene.
To make an appointment for your children, call Douglas A. Callow, DDS at 734-404-7336. Our Plymouth, MI office is located minutes away from both Smith Elementary School and East Middle School. You can trust Douglas A. Callow, DDS to take care of your children for he’s awarded membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society.
We Offer Age-Appropriate Dental Care
While we will gently clean your toddler’s teeth, their earliest visits are more about getting to know Douglas A. Callow, DDS. And they’re a great time for you to ask questions about teething or any other aspect of your child’s oral health. As your child gets older and permanent teeth come in, we’ll make sure their bite looks good and their teeth and mouth are healthy.
We’ll also introduce preventive care during their dental exams like:
- Fluoride, which strengthens your child’s teeth and helps inhibit the bacteria that cause tooth decay.
- Dental sealants, which provide an added layer of protection on tough-to-clean areas like back teeth.
We can also outfit your young athletes with custom mouthguards to help prevent injuries during sports. (You might benefit from a mouthguard too if you are suffering dental damage from teeth grinding.)
